Murphy Cup 07: Philadelphia, PA

Below are some pictures I took during our regatta this weekend in Philly. We (the Varsity Men's 2V) got 3rd in our race, losing to temple (6 sec) and Drexel (0.2 sec). We could've beaten Drexel any other day or race, had we been on the water at all this week (unfortunately, the Hudson is still too cold and icy). Due to the timing of the race schedule, I was really only able to take pictures of the novice men's heats in the late morning. As a final note, thanks again Mom and Dad for my zoom lens... it works MUCH better than a wide-angle for taking pictures of crew!

Claire Heid, my coxswain (men's 2nd varsity), caught me trying to take a picture of her checking the riggers on our boat, and decided to wave instead.

The men's first novice boat pushes past Layola to eventually win by a length, as the Layola women's novice team looks on from the far shore (rowing back upriver after their race).

Bowman, 2 and 3 of the men's 2nd novice, racing down the course - and a decent look at how the oar very literally bends when you apply enough force.

A last look at the men's 2nd novice - they lost only to Lehigh in their heat, who creeps in the far edge of the picture from Lane 6. Note the importance of timing at the finish - 4 man is a bit late, and 5 man is probably a bit early - but pretty good at this level and at this point in the race.
